So Superleague comes to a conclusion Benchmark Aka Mark Romano & Ben Mckay pinch the title in an all 5 setter final from Double D who have won it for the last 2 years. Outstanding performances form both teams
Benchmark aka Ben Mckay and Mark Romano Superleague champions 2023 with Double D aka Matthew Davies & David Butler coming a very close RU. 3rd place went to Angles aka Angie Bristow & Noah Csillag.
Both the boys found their feet, Matthew first taking out Mark Romano in a close 5 setter and Ben doing the same to David Butler 3 straight, thrilling stuff, the doubles was also a 5 set affair and the head to head between Mat & Ben was on another level Ben just taking it again in the 5th, many fully blooded powered top spin rallies thrilling the crowds
Ben McKay finished second overall and qualifies for the Nationals in the boys U15s Regional qualifiers held at the club on Saturday just losing in the fifth to the winner from Sussex the finals will take place in Wolverhampton in May. A very large entry of 36 boys from Kent, Sussex & Surrey & 14 girls. A side note Amelie Dodd also qualifies for the Nationals in the U11 girls uncontested.
So a massive finish to NJL yesterday with Cleeve Park Red just pipping Byng Hall Red Ben Mckay, Isabel Webb, Emily Koester, Oli Matthews. Ben finished unbeaten on the day, the team went into the final session one point ahead of Cleeve Red with all to play for in the final, we only needed to draw to win the whole event, but despite some amazing games from all our players, Ben won his two, we now needed the girls to pick up one between them, but it wasn't to be on the day, despite a valiant effort from both Issy and Emily producing some outstanding performances and a few 5 setter marathons, in particular the last match of the day between Emily & Mate Nagypal which again went to five with Emily being 9-6 down in the fifth and battling back to finally lose out at deuce. So we had to settle for Silver with Cleeve going home with Gold. Huge thanks to all the team for making the event so successful through these terrible Covid restrictions. Nick Smith, Neil Marsden, Tony Davies, Rob Webb, Mark Dodd to name but a few.
