TW Closed Tournament |
The event held at the Byng Hall Table tennis club, St Johns School, Cunningham Road Tunbridge wells on Sunday 6th April 2003
Despite one of the lowest entries in the tournaments history, some of the best table tennis was seen to be played. The stars of the event were without doubt, the Byng Hall clubs juniors. Headed by the outstanding performance of Will Harrington, who reached the final of all five events that he could enter. Will won the junior event, and partnered by Alec Bartlett also won the junior doubles
Main event of the day, the open singles was a repeat of the junior final, also won by Will Harrington with John Everest runner up. The senior upsets here included the loss of the number one seed John Borham to Geoff Curtis, and the loss of the number two seed Steve New to the eventual winner Will Harrington
Will’s only defeat of the day was at the hands of Chloe Dunmall in the handicapped singles were Will had to concede 14 points in each game
In the cadet event the positive attitude of young William Bayley triumphed over the highly ranked Chloe Dunmall in what turned out to be one of the best games of the day
The women’s event, in the absence of two of our top ladies, was a round robin affair with the Hubbard sisters taking the accolades. Joanne retained the title she has won for the last 3 years and sister Sarah having to settle for 2nd place
