Byng Domination at the Kent Closed

Jasmin Ould of the Byng Hall Club, Tunbridge Wells retained her two singles titles at the Kent Junior Closed Championships held at the Howard School Gillingham, on Saturday 2nd May

Jasmin, who has just broken into the English cadet girls’ top 10 ranking at no.10 in the new list, comfortably won the Kent cadet singles, beating Claire Harvey of the Meopham Club, Gravesend League, 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 in final. Although she never looked like losing, she had a harder time in the junior girls’ singles final, dropping her only singles game of the Saturday, and being taken close in the first and third before beating Daniella Gray, of the Weald Club, Cranbrook (Ashford League), 11-9, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9.

Andrew Lockwood (Byng Hall) and Jack Hartland (Medway) were the steadier pair in their 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-3 cadet boys’ victory over Kemnal club pair Daniel Chen and Dan Lawrence.

Kent Senior Closed

Chris Bartram from Bromley, and Mark Brown, Mark Romano, Jurate Brazaityte and Jasmin Ould from the Byng Hall Club, Tunbridge Wells dominated the Kent Senior Closed Championships on the Sunday.

Byng Hall’s Jurate Brazaityte got the verdict against club mate Jasmin Ould 11-8, 11-4, 6-11, 11-7 to take the women’s singles. The two teamed up to lift the women’s doubles with an 8-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 success against the Maidstone pairing of Jorgensen and Jill Shipton.

However, Ould added to her two singles titles tally of the previous day, the junior and the cadet, by defeating yet another Byng Hall player Julie Latreville 11-9, 11-7, 4-11, 11-2 in the under 21 women’s singles

Bartram beat Brown in straight games, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 to become Kent men’s singles champion. The same players met in the veteran men’s singles final where the match was a little closer but the result the same, Bartram taking it 11-4, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6.

Mark Romano of the Byng Hall Club, Tunbridge Wells, lifted two doubles titles, With Dave Davies (Bromley), he won a close men’s doubles final, 11-5, 11-9, 5-11, 4-11, 11-7 over Bromley pair Bartram and Andrew Dodd. And in the mixed doubles with Marianne Jorgensen of Maidstone he beat Bartram and Carol Homewood (Bromley) after a long fourth game, 11-9, 11-6, 5-11, 17-15
