Hospitals Cup Final

The Hospitals Cup Final was held at St. Johns School on the 31st of March. The Hospitals Cup is the Tunbridge Wells League's handicap Cup. It gives players in the lower divisions to play higher teams. Players are given a head start depending on their individual ratings. The cup still uses the 21-up system as a whole new handicapping system would need to be set up for 11-up. Hopefully this will be done for next seasons competition.

This years final was between Byng Hall D, last years winners and Weald Angley who are new to the league this year. The Weald side consists purely of juniors and thus the competition provided some good experience for them.

The final was staged and all matches were umpired by John Butler MBE. Weald gave away head starts in all the games, which would have been an unusual position for them as they have much lower ratings than other players in the league. Byng Hall D are very experienced in the Hospitals Cup having won it on a few occasions as St Matthews.

The Weald youngsters should no fear and really went for their shots. This youthful enthusiasm paid dividends with them triumphing 5-2. A good win for the young team.
